Today in this tutorial I am going to talk about how to install themes and plugin. You need a theme for designing and setup your website. The theme is a front design area. There are many types of themes. Which theme is needed for your website depends on your website category.

Example, news site needs news structure theme.

Every different website needs different types of themes. Many developer companies provides paid and free themes. The new website developer should use a free theme for starting.

A plugin is needed for website setting tools, RSS feed, SEO work.

How to Install a WordPress Theme

Installing a WordPress theme is easy. But keep in mind that if you activate a new theme, then it will change how your website looks and functions. If you’re switching from an existing theme, then you may want to look at our checklist of things you need to do before changing WordPress themes.

Install a Theme using WordPress Admin Theme Search Area

If you’re looking to install a free WordPress theme from the WordPress.org themes directory, then the easiest way is by using the WordPress admin theme search functionality.

To start, log into your WordPress website and go to Appearance Themes in the WordPress dashboard and click Add New.

From there, you can filter the results based on:

  • Featured
  • Popular
  • Latest
  • Favorites

Or, you can use the Feature Filter button to filter the theme results based on specific features.

When you see the theme that you want to install, simply bring your mouse on top of the image. This will reveal the install button, preview button, and details button. Go ahead and click on the install button.

WordPress will now install your theme and show you a success message along with the link to activate or live preview.

Click on the activate button, and you’ve successfully installed and activated your WordPress theme.

Install a Theme by using Upload Method from WordPress Admin Area

Or what if you want to install a custom theme? Well, in this case, you would need to install the theme using the upload method from your WordPress admin.

Start by downloading the .zip file of the theme that you purchased from a marketplace or a commercial theme provider.

Next login to your WordPress admin area and click on Appearance » Themes.

Once you are on the themes page, click on the Add New button at the top.

Next, click Upload Theme to upload the zip file of your premium WordPress theme to your website from your Backup :

Once your theme is installed, you will see a success message along with the link to activate and preview the theme.

Click on the activate button, and you’ve successfully installed and activated your WordPress theme.

Install a Plugin using WordPress Plugin Search Area

The first thing you need to do is go to your WordPress admin area and click on Plugins » Add New.

Find the plugin by typing the plugin name or the functionality you are looking for like we did. After that, you will see a bunch of listings.

The plugin you looking for is the first one on the list. All you need to do now is click the “Install Now” button.

A WordPress plugin can be installed on your site, but it will not work unless you activate it. So go ahead and click on the activate plugin link to activate the plugin on your WordPress site.

That’s all, you have successfully installed your first WordPress plugin.

The next step is to configure the plugin settings.

Install a Plugin using the WordPress Admin Plugin Upload Area

Paid WordPress plugins are not listed in the WordPress plugin directory. These plugins cannot be installed using the first method.

That’s why WordPress has the Upload method to install such plugins. We will show you how to install WordPress plugins using the upload option in the admin area.

First, you need to download the plugin from the source (which will be a zip file). Next, you need to go to WordPress admin area and visit Plugins » Add New page.

Once there, click on the “Upload Plugin” button visible at the top:

This will bring you to the plugin upload page. Here you need to click on the choose file button and select the plugin file you downloaded earlier to your backup.

Just select the ZIP from your Backup and confirm the upload by clicking on “Install Now.”
